Scuba Diving Albany, Western Australia

Situated between the hills of Mount Melville and Mount Clarence is the city centre of Albany. One of its major sources of livelihood that brought vigor to its economy is the whaling industry, which started way back in the 1950's. The Whaling Station, which was the last notable factory that carried out the whaling trade, was later on transformed into a museum dedicated to Albany's legacy on whaling.  One particular remnant from this era showcased in this museum is the “Cheynes” or whale chasers that were primarily used for whaling.

Albany also possesses the latest and largest sets of windmills dubbed as The Western Power Wind Farm, which generates 75% of the entire town's power supply. Albany also has its share of prominent historical sites that attract tourists across the world such as the Forts, Patrick Taylor Cottage, and the Albany Convict Gaol.  There is also an abundance of natural sights present in Albany. Some of these are the picturesque Natural Bridge and the Gap.

Diving in Albany

Other than being known for its valuable historical sites and its traditional whaling industry, Albany also houses enthralling diving spots that possess some of the world's most exotic marine life.  Reef divers, for instance, can swim with the company of whale sharks, turtles, angler fish, and more.  The main attraction of these diving spots, however, is the seasonal migration of whale sharks.

Divers often get the opportunity to witness first-hand the elegance and power of the whale shark as they swim with them across the Albany reef.  There are over 500 known species of marine life present in the reefs outlining Albany, so you can be assured of a very vigorous aquatic activity, which makes an Albany diving experience more fun and exciting!

If you and your friends get tired of observing the luscious marine life of Albany, you could always opt to try the shipwreck itinerary.  The HMAS Perth was intentionally submerged beneath the shores of Albany on November 24, 2001 to create an artificial dive reef.  This artificial shipwreck is now the new dwelling haven for different marine species.  Ever since its inauguration, the HMAS Perth shipwreck has attracted multitudes of tourists eager to explore the inner workings of the ship.

Indeed, Albany holds many wonders beneath its depths: lush and exotic coral reefs teeming with life coupled with a mystical shipwreck that are all bound to captivate one's interest and impress pleasant memories that can be treasured for years to come.
