Scuba Diving Portland, VictoriaDespite its abundant resources, Portland almost lost its glimmer as a commercial centre. But big thanks to the aluminum smelting and the underwater diving activities, Portland was able to revive its economy. Not only that, Portland was also able to preserve its more than 100 historical sites, which include the Cliff Street courthouse, the Mac's Hotel, the customs house, the Steam Packet Hotel, and the Ploughed Field, where the Henty family first sowed wheat crops on a cliff top. Tourism then created a new life for the port -- as a diving spot -- with the other famous tourist destinations such as the Maritime Discovery Museum, the Burswood Homestead, and the History House. Apart from sightseeing, other popular activities for visitors involve surfing, swimming, and diving, while great deep water adventure is also a famous tourist magnet in the Portland Beach, where you may also surf along the coastlines at the Bridgewater Bay, the Black Nose Point, the Point Danger, and the Crumpet. The forest scenery is absolutely breathtaking, but it is the beautiful coastal sites that leave tourists and voyagers in great awe with the port's fishing spectaculars like bluefin tuna, yellowtail kingfish, and snapper, while gummy sharks are also seen frequenting the Lawrence Rocks. Offshore, in the harbor, or from the breakwall, fish hunting and diving are among the best experiences this place has to offer. From being a small town, Portland then blossomed into a city with more jobs to offer to almost 12,000 urban dwellers. The melting pot of amazing Portland talents included pottery, music and arts, quilting, wood turning, photography, print making, sculpture and design, as well as writing, and they all draw inspiration from the great landscape of coral reefs and unique finds underwater. Diving in PortlandOne of many secrets of Portland is its great diving experience. There are not many places in the world where you are able to dive with fur seals from the shore. Explore the the fascinating caves and colorful sponge gardens, guide your way around the beautiful kelp forest and be mesmerised with drop down walls of up to 70 metres. Enjoy the artificial shipwrecks of Saxon and Emily Shipwrecks, deliberately sunk to form an artificial reef. Many other great diving sites include Bridgewater Bay, Nunns bay, and Southwest Bay. Just 362 kilometres on the west of Melbourne, the Princes Highway and the Great Ocean Road are some of the easier routes to Portland. Transportation is available by flight in a commercial airline, though passenger rails, and road transports are also made more convenient. However, with a flourishing industry in tourism, cable trams now accommodate a tour around the best scenic discoveries in Portland. Dive SitesComing Soon |
