Pressure Gauge/Depth Gauge
Scuba diving is definitely one of the beloved outdoor activities of people who like to explore the beauty underwater. Scuba divers enjoy the freedom of moving beneath the deep blue sea or the freshwater to witness sea creatures swimming, to unravel the beauty of corals, or to visit caverns and shipwrecks. Scuba diving involves using various equipment pieces to allow a diver to breathe underwater. For a complete diving experience, one must utilize supplies to support his/her submersion. The apparatus for basic scuba diving are usually made to aid breathing. Apart from fins and masks, a compressed air cylinder is included in a demand-regulator. It can be made from a steel or an aluminum alloy to control the air pressure depending on the diver's needs. On the other hand, there are devices that are made for critical safety. Experts give high importance to the safety of a person in any diving pursuit. Among the safety instruments that divers need in scuba diving is the depth gauge. A depth gauge is a type of a pressure gauge, which determines the corresponding deepness in water. Most depth gauges that divers use have a digital display and an electrical mechanism. Scuba divers use a depth gauge that has a watch plus decompression tables to lessen the chances of suffering from decompression sickness. Decompression sickness is a symptom caused by the decreased pressure that surrounds a diver's body. Sometimes, experts use an oxygen sensor or oxygen analyzer with a depth gauge to check the partial oxygen pressure of the breathing gas. This measurement is needed to mark down dangers of having oxygen toxicity, which is severe excess in oxygen caused by breathing gas at greater than standard atmospheric pressure. Today, there are scuba divers that use digital depth gauges that show the time interval of the diver's submersion and his rate of descent and ascent. A digital depth gauge is very useful to avoid barotrauma or the damaging of body tissues caused by the difference of pressure of the surrounding liquid or gas and an air space inside the body. However, some people use alternative equipment if a depth gauge is not available. The common substitute is a Dive Computer that can measure depth and time of one's diving to fight decompression sickness. For interested travelers and diver-wannabes, it is advisable to consult only qualified and experienced scuba diving instructors. Breathing and security equipment must also be complete before plunging deep into the seas to have a safe and fun adventure underwater.
